Comes Friday, the trendy MÉTIS Lounge hosts Aperochic evening where a top-notch sound system and the best local and international DJs create a chic atmosphere for aperitifs with friends. In addition to great cocktails using only high-end liquor brands like Beluga Vodka, Patrón Tequila and Dom Pérignon, a Mediterranean-oriented tapas menu with a touch of Japanese flavour based on the ‘sharing is caring’ concept is served. Dress to impress.

By this time we are craving some more food and head to the upper level of Mama San where leather club chairs, ottomans, a plump banquette with scatter cushions and Raja palace lights, chandeliers and candles twinkling softly create the perfect ambience to chill-out with tasty cocktails and amazing Asian bites by the famous chef Will Meyrick.

Address: Jalan Raya Kerobokan No. 135

10.30pm it’s champagne o’clock at Red Carpet Champagne Bar

Boasting Indonesia’s largest selection of Champagne, this Seminyak icon is cozy and intimate, with a sexy splash of course. As one might expect of a Champagne bar, there is an exclusive feel – yet the atmosphere remains light, playful and casually fun.

Editor’s Pick: La Laguna, Canggu

in Dining by

Our radar has detected a new hip spot in Canggu. Created by the clever folks behind La Favela, La Laguna is right on the beachfront half way between Batubelig and Berawa beaches. It’s quirky wooden bridge entrance is already a favourite photo backdrop for visitors and local photographers.

With its vintage décor showcasing a shabby-island-chic style, this place is a great hangout for girly lunches, family dinners or cocktails to the chill-out beats. Think colourful cushions under the shade of palm trees, herb pots as table centerpieces and breathtaking ocean views. It doesn’t get much better than this.

Feeling peckish? Yummy tapas, sandwiches, soups, salads or our favourite sharing platters await. You can also opt for a raw platter- shellviche, sardines, swordfish and tuna tataki. In need of a little pick me up? “Spoon Me” lemongrass crème brulé topped with fresh raspberries lives up to its name.

For the thirsty, concoctions of lemongrass, vodka, chilli, basil and lime (Herb & Spiced) will tantalise the taste buds, where pineapple, vodka, Malibu, cranberry and lime (Tropical Lagoon) will leave you refreshed. Need a little kick before a night out? Espresso Martini is the way to go! Chilled beers and wines are also available.

Watch this place, they have big plans for growing and introducing some of the best parties of the island.

Bali’s Best Local Food

in Dining by

Let’s talk Balinese cuisine – a mix of rich and bold flavours, spice pastes loaded with coriander seeds, galangal, turmeric and candlenut, pork, chicken, duck and fish cooked over wood fires, grilled over coconut husks or slow-braised. Rice and a spoonful of sambal – a mix of chili peppers, shrimp paste, fish sauce, garlic, ginger, shallot, scallion, sugar, lime and vinegar – to top it up. Want to experience Bali’s best local food on your next trip? Drop by these 5 amazing local warungs we love:

Warung Ibu Eny, Seminyak

Warung Ibu Eny is tucked away on the famous Petitenget street in Seminyak. Its leafy offering-scattered entrance and modest wooden furnishing make it a cozy spot to enjoy local food. Try their signature nasi campur, which can feature anything from whole roasted chicken in a betutu-style sauce to garlic and chilli-infused stir-fried water spinach, spicy pork steamed in banana leaves, deep-fried tempeh or braised tofu.

Warung Ibu Eny, Jalan Petitenget 97, Seminyak, +62 361 736 892.

Liku Ayam Betutu, Kuta

Betutu – chicken or duck wrapped in the banana bark with a mix of coconut oil and spices, and smoked for a day in an earthenware pot – is one of the great dishes of Balinese cuisine. Because it’s complex and time-consuming to prepare, you won’t often find it at your average Indonesian restaurant, but a small garage-like warung on Jalan Nakula, just outside Kuta, offers one of the finest versions on the island.

Liku Ayam Betutu, Jalan Nakula 19, Badung, no phone.

Warung Makan Teges, Ubud

Located amongst the lush tropical gardens, in a traditional Balinese house, Teges serves best home-style Balinese cooking. Best-seller – nasi campur traditionally served on a banana leaf lending an appetizing aroma to the rice. Nasi campur here comes with two options — chicken or pork — all minced and cooked together with vegetables in coconut milk. The true highlight of the meal is the devilishly spicy sambal matah, the sauce made from fresh chili pods and sliced shallots and lime leaves.

Warung Makan Teges, Jalan Raya Cok Rai Pudak, Banjar Teges, Peliatan, Ubud, +62 361 975 251.
